On 7 March Dutch State Secretary Raymond Knops visited the Euregio Scheldemond. In the Dutch Government State Secretary Knops is responsible for the cooperation with Germany and Belgium in the border regions. Flemish Representative in the Netherlands, Axel Buyse, accompanied State Secretary Knops during his visit to Ghent and Terneuzen.
The first part of the visit, at the Ghent University, was all about cross border cooperation in health care. The shortages of qualified nurses and the mutual recognition of diplomas and professional qualifications in health care were some of the discussed topics.
In the afternoon, there was a visit to the Border Information Point in Terneuzen where cross-border workers can find information on social security or taxes. The State Secretary also received a presentation of the North Sea Port, the 60-kilometer-long cross-border port area from Vlissingen in the Netherlands to Ghent in Belgium.
State Secretary Knops: “Cross-border cooperation offers opportunities. I'm very motivated to further stimulate the existing cooperation."
