Project: the construction of additional accommodation for health care personnel in Tete province
Beneficiary: BTC (Belgian Technical Cooperation)
Duration: 2013-2014
Budget: 1.791.895 euro
In view of improving personnel policies in the health care sector, the Government of Flanders has decided to make a contribution to the construction of additional accommodation for health care personnel in Tete province.
In February 2013 the authorities of the Mozambican Tete province were requesting support for their personnel policy. Personnel is among the key factors impacting the quality of health services. They suggested focusing on better accommodation for nurses, midwives and other health workers.
The importance of good quality housing for health care personnel was demonstrated by a recent EU study on retention and motivation of health workers in Mozambique. Medical personnel working in health centres often face a dramatic shortage of houses. Some of them live in inadequate houses, sometimes even in straw huts.
BTC (Belgian Technical Cooperation) was commissioned to put an experienced engineer/architect at the disposal of the Tete provincial authorities for a period of 24 months. This expert will assist and follow up the construction of houses for the technical health workers.
