On October 4, 2016 the south-west of Haiti was struck by Hurricane Matthew. This has caused the largest humanitarian crisis on the island since the 2010 earthquake.
Flanders therefore has awarded a grant of 100,000 euros to the Red Cross.
With support of the Government of Flanders, Red Cross-Flanders with the German Red Cross and the volunteers of the Haitian Red Cross work in the Nippes department to prevent the outbreak of a cholera epidemic and to restore the agricultural production. The overall objective of this intervention is to ensure that 1,500 vulnerable families receive emergency assistance in a timely, efficient and effective manner and that they hereby receive the necessary support for the recovery and reconstruction process their livelihood.
