Duration: 2013
Budget: 1.000.000
In late 2012 the Government of Flanders decided for the first time to support the development of the SEED initiative in South Africa. The SEED initiative is a global partnership for action around sustainable development and green economy and was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Duration and budget
The Government of Flanders appropriates an extra 1 million euros in 2013 for the SEED initiative in Mozambique, Malawi and Namibia.
Practical implementation
SEED supports innovative small-scale and locally driven entrepreneurs around the globe who integrate social and environmental benefits into their business model from the outset. The aim is to help these entrepreneurs recreate or expand their activities, thereby contributing to their local communities. SEED also promotes sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems as well as the fight against marginalisation, exclusion and poverty.
The Government of Flanders decided to invest an extra 999,795.50 euros in the SEED initiative. Thus it combines the development of entrepreneurship in southern Africa with increased attention for climate goals. More specifically, this contribution will help initiatives in Mozambique, Malawi and Namibia.
