More than a country, India is actually a continent with very different cultures and religions. The country has more than one billion inhabitants. Over the course of history, many empires followed each other to the Indus and the Ganges. Two religions that originated in India, Hinduism and Buddhism, have exerted a great cultural influence on East Asia and South-East Asia. Nowadays, it is an emerging economy with an important Asian market. In 2015, India was the seventh export market of Flanders. It is also an important academic and scientific partner for Flanders. Flanders has economic representatives in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi.
