The South African Minister of Environmental Affairs Edna Molewa and Minister-president Geert Bourgeois signed a declaration of intent concerning development cooperation. The Minister-president signed the declaration on August 21th in Pretoria during his mission to the Flemish partner countries in Southern Africa.
South Africa is highly vulnerable to climate change. The effects of climate change become more and more apparent. By signing the declaration, Flanders and South Africa join forces in the battle against climate change. Making vulnerable groups more resilient is one of the top items on the agenda. For this end, cooperation with local communities, private enterprises, citizen initiatives, and experts is necessary.
As part of the declaration Bourgeois visited some projects such as Sustainable Horizons. An environmental service who recycles old tyres into useful objects. Furthermore, minister-president Bourgeois announced the winners at the ‘Street Art meets Climate Change Awards’. The competition wants to raise aware for climate issues and green economy through street art.
