On 29 October, 140 companies went to Iran on a four day economic mission led by Minister-president Bourgeois. The three Belgian export agencies, Flanders Investment & Trade, AWEX and Brussels Invest & Export, organized this mission together.
Lifting the economic sanctions against Iran opend a market of 80 million people and Iran needs industrial modernisation and infrastructural upgrading. This offers great opportunities for Flemish companies.
Flanders Investment & Trade, with its office in Tehran, also saw great interest on the Iranian side. Over 1,000 individual appointments took place during these four days between participating companies and local entrepreneurs.
Minister-president Bourgeois: "That this important market reopens after years of isolation, represents a significant opportunity for Flemish companies. ... It is likely that the Flemish-Iranian trade relations will reach their old level again soon, and even exceed it. For attracting investments Iran could eventually also become an interesting destination. "
