Angola got off to a difficult start after their fight for independence against their Portuguese colonial rulers. During the first quarter century of its existence, the country suffered under a bloody civil war. Due to its wealth in raw materials, oil and diamonds, there is huge potential for economic development in the country. Thereby there are also trade links with Flemish ports and Antwerp's diamond industry.
