On 20 February, Flanders welcomed a delegation of the Hungarian Government, headed by Deputy State Secretary for Foreign Economic Affairs of Hungary, Petra Pana, during the 10th Joint Commission between Flanders and Hungary. Flanders signed its first treaty with Hungary in 1994. Relations with Hungary have remained very important ever since.
The large Hungarian delegation consisted of business leaders and experts from the transport and mobility sector. During a workshop at the Errera house, they shared their insights on business, logistics and mobility with multiple Flemish players from these sectors. The Hungarian government is looking to further strengthen Hungarian exports through Flemish ports.
Flanders wants to achieve a stronger modal shift in freight transport. The Flemish experts presented the multimodal connections between Flanders and the European hinterland.
During the meeting, Petra Pana and secretary general of the Department of Foreign Affairs Koen Verlaeckt signed the work programme 2018-2019. Both parties want to continue their cooperation by 33 projects in the field of trade and investment, transport and infrastructure, agriculture, the environment and animal welfare, health care, education, youth work and culture.
