On International Women's Day, Flanders and the International Labour Organisation, ILO, call for more respect and decent wages for the work of women in the care economy.
Worldwide, the healthcare sector is a sector with a very large proportion of female workers. In a large part of the world this fact often leads to a lack of respect for the work of these women, and low earnings inside the sector, . However, the care economy offers an enormous potential of decent and fulfilling jobs for both women and men. In order to tap this potential reforms are needed.
With the support of the Government of Flanders ILO made an awareness movie. This animation movie hightlights the gender aspect of the campaign "decent work in the care economy" and some necessary reforms are proposed. This animation movie can undoubtedly make a valuable contribution to new insights on this year's theme of the Commission of the Status of Women at the UN: "Economic emancipation of women in a changing world of work".
