Minister-president Jambon made an official visit to Catalonia on 30 November. Catalan President Quim Torra received him at the Palau de la Generalitat in Barcelona.
Minister-president Jambon does not agree with the EU to regard the Catalan crisis as an internal Spanish matter. “If in a Member State of the European Union people are imprisoned because of their opinion, then that is not an internal matter. If it’s not possible in Belgium, then it should not be allowed in Spain.” During the joint press conference with President Torra, he called on the new European leaders to exert pressure and to encourage the parties to engage in political dialogue.
President Torra and Minister-president Jambon also jointly called on the new European Commission to develop a mechanism whereby new, democratically established states from within the EU can quickly integrate into the EU.
In addition to the official reception at the Palau de la Generalitat in Barcelona, Minister-president Jambon had two more meetings scheduled. The meetings with Jordi Puignero, Minister of Digitalization and Public Service, and with Alfred Bosch, Minister of Foreign Affairs, dealt with the implementation of the current work program between Flanders and Catalonia.
