On October 1, 2021, the 35th world exhibition started in Dubai, with the theme 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future'. With a one-year delay, due to the corona crisis, the United Arab Emirates will welcome the entire world until March 31, 2022.
‘Flanders Week’ took place from 24 to 27 October in the Belgian pavilion. Minister-President Jambon led the Flemish delegation, in which dozens of entrepreneurs also participated, to promote Flanders. The focus was on innovation and sustainability. Julie Bynens, Secretary General of Flanders Chancellery and Foreign Office, and Claire Tillekaerts, CEO of Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), were also present.
The program included the G-STIC conference, a session on circular economy and demos from imec and Bike Valley. Various Flemish projects were put in the spotlight, including 'La Mer Jumeirah' by DEME.
There were also many meetings with (potential) investors and some political contacts, including with the President of Malawi, partner country of the Flemish development cooperation.
A visit by the Flemish delegation to the other pavilions and the Louvre Abu Dhabi was also a must.
