Flemish-Dutch seminar on cross-border infrastructure

  • June 17, 2022

On 17 June, the Flemish and Dutch Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of the Interior and Kingdom Relations organised an exclusive seminar on 'Cross-border infrastructure' in Antwerp. the seminar is the result of an agreement made during the Flemish-Dutch summit in 2020 and a study on cross-border cooperation that resulted from that.

The realisation of cross-border infrastructure is complex, taking into account procedures that are not always compatible with each other. At the same time, good cross-border infrastructure is necessary, from rail, road and water to cables and pipes for the transport of raw materials and energy: on the one hand for the growth opportunities of the Netherlands and Flanders, on the other for the sustainability of our economies. The study shows, however, that differences between laws and regulations need not be obstructive, as long as good preconditions are created.

During the seminar, the high-level speakers and a captivated audience sought answers to the question of what is needed to put the results of the study into practice. The next step is implementation, so that the solution directions from the study can be applied to future cross-border projects.
