"Distortion, a Hymn to Liberty", composed by Dirk Brossé, Jef Neve and Sioen, was performed on November 8th at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The three Flemish composers performed the music piece together with The Chamber Orchestra of New York and the soprano Hanne Roos. The hymn was composed at the request of the Government of Flanders for the commemoration of World War I.
100 years ago, in 1917, The United States of America entered World War I. The arrival of American troops was the beginning of the end of this devastating war. After the war, in 1919, the League of Nations, the precursor of the United Nations, was established to prevent a repetition of such a horrendous and deadly war.
To commemorate this, the Representation of Flanders in the USA organized the concert as well as the second performance on November 9 at the Merkin Concert Hall in New York. The proceeds of the second concert will be donated to the United War Veterans Council.
